The Listening Place

The Listening Place (TLP) is a charity offering free, regular, face-to-face support for people who feel life is no longer worth living. Appointments are delivered by highly trained volunteers at one of four locations across London: Pimlico, Kings Cross, Hammersmith and Liverpool St.

In order to receive support, TLP asks only that people are:

  • Over 18
  • Having suicidal thoughts
  • Able to commit to regular face-to-face appointments at one of TLP's London sites

Support is available through fortnightly 50-minute appointments, during which people can explore their suicidal thoughts and feelings without judgment or advice. TLP's strict confidentiality policy means that people can feel secure talking about their distress without worrying that information will be passed to the NHS or other services.

To access this support, people can either self-refer directly via TLP's website or be referred by a professional like a GP. The Listening Place always aims to make contact within 24 hours after a referral and to offer a first appointment within 7 days.
